THE SHAPE OF THE NATION

Our journey...

   Thursday May 3rd - Day 1

Leaving from Chirk in north east Wales at 9am, and heading south on the inland section of our circumnavigation of Wales. Route stats are actual travel time of 9 hours & 11 minutes and distance of 201 miles of 'B road and 'back road. Mid route break at Presteigne 1-50pm. Following all navigable public highways, keeping within Wales at all times (only just), at times straddling the historic Offa's Dyke, ending our day's journey near Newport on the mouth of the River Severn at 6pm.

   Friday May 4th - Day 2

Leaving Newport at 9am for 8 hours travel and 147 miles... Following the south wales coast in a clockwise direction, passing enroute the Millenium Stadium, Cardiff. Mid route break at Llandow Motor Circuit where we shall include a lap of the circuit prior to continuing to Swansea, and ending the day's journey near the town of Camarthen.

 

 

   Saturday May 5th - Day 3

Leaving Camarthen and heading westward... the day will amass 228 miles & 10 hours motorcycling. Following the coastline to Tenby, Pembroke Castle, the coastline of the Pembrokeshire National park leading to St Davids. Later heading northward along the western coast roads, concluding the day at the town of Aberystwyth in mid Wales.

   Sunday May 6th - Day 4

Continuing north from Aberystwyth day four of the coastal route will total a further 211 miles and 9 hours motorcycling. Enroute, Porthmadog, a tour of the Llyn peninsula, Caernarfon with its castle, across the Menai Straits to Ynys Mon - Anglesey and the west coast of the island to Ty Croes & the Anglesey Circuit. Following a lap of the circuit continue to finish the day at Holyhead.

 

   Bank Holiday Monday May 7th - Day 5

Bank holiday Monday - Will see us total 191 miles and 8 hours motorcycling as we complete the navigation of Anglesey, re-cross the Menai Strait and follow the north Wales coast eastward. The town of Conwy, Llandudno, circle the Great Orme, onward through the towns of Rhyl and Prestatyn, and follow the Dee estuary to Connahs Quay. A final inland 'hop scotch' will see us follow the welsh border to Chirk and complete the 'shape of the nation'.... A total of 978 miles, 45 hours motorcycling over 5 days.
